Starting a Positivity Movement...who is with me?

09 August 2017

Today I had a few minutes to relax so I picked up the newspaper. Only one sad story after the other. Crime. Poverty. Depression. Anger. Politics. War.

I promptly put the paper down. Realizing that sensationalism sells but deciding this is not, and dear God please, can not, be the full story of real life.

I turned to the magazine next to the newspaper. Shallowness. Race for fame. Battle to stay young forever. A photoshopped idea of beauty. Gossip. Shaming others.

Judging others. Feeding on others failures. Why do we feel the need to break each other down? Is the world not tough enough?

I wanted to say "Enough world. I am signing off. I decide not to be part of this."

But then I rather decide... I am starting a Positivity Movement. Yes, little me.

No, I won't change the world. But I will change my part of it. I am deciding to craft my little world the way I want to. To be a positive influence. To honour and celebrate others that do the same.

I may not change world economy or world poverty or world politics. But I can choose that those that come over my path can feel a little relief, see a glimmer of positivity, feel kindness, have hope that not all is lost.

I am going to Be The Difference that I want to see in the world.

Who is with me?

We are in this world but not of this world. Creating a Culture of Good.

13 August 2017

I had a 'stop-in-your-tracks' moment. You know, one of those moments you see in movies where everything and everyone and all sound stops in their track , only the main character is moving and looking around him or her in complete astonishment

trying to figure out what is going on...

I had just such a moment when I was in a discussion with some friends that led to the need for a toxic leader to remain in power so that the exchange rate will not move in the wrong direction and put their company in finanicial difficulty.

Everyone freeze.

Everything stop mid air.

Silence.

Where are we? What are we busy with? That we need to cheer on a clearly toxic leader so that our company doesn't go into financial hardshop because of exchange rate fluctuations.

Yes, I realise this is the reality of this world. I am not an unrealistic head-in-the-sky dreamer.

But I wrestle with how I live in this world, but disconnect from its methods so I can fulfill my destiny of life. (Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2)

My existence need to be more.

Then I come across an article publilshed by Dr.Marshall Goldschmith on his LinkedIn page, about Ryan McCarty and Scott Moorehead, the co-founders of Culture of Good.

Many of us have heard the story of the boy walking along the shore of a beach following a storm that left thousands of starfish stranded on the sand. Nearby, a man watches as the boy throws the starfish back into the water one by one. Intrigued, the man approaches the boy and asks why he’s throwing the starfish back one at a time. The man states that there are thousands of starfish on the beach and he won’t make a difference. The boy responds by reaching down and picking up another starfish and throwing it back into the water. As he does this, he says, “It makes a difference for that one.”

Scott Moorehead, the CEO of TCC Verizon, hired Ryan McCarty to help create a Culture of Good for the largest Verizon Authorized Retailer’s 3,000 employees at 800 stores across the U.S. What the duo began as a powerful movement—in which employees have done everything from dressing up as superheroes for a children’s hospital to distributing hundreds of thousands of backpacks for kids—has grown into a business teaching other companies that inspired employees ignite positive change in the world and impact your bottom line – positively.

Scott Moorehead is the Co-founder of Culture of Good, Inc. and CEO of Round Room, TCC, and Redux.

Scott is a recognized thought leader and subject matter expert in what it takes to create and develop purposeful for-profit organizations that abide by the philosophy of doing well by doing good.

Ryan created Culture of Good, Inc. to inspire other businesses to create truly altruistic programs that make the world a better place.

Ryan believes in order for a company’s Culture of Good to be successful and meaningful, giving back must be engrained in the foundation of its core values. Through Culture of Good, Inc. Ryan helps other organizations engage the hearts of their employees and empower them to make the changes they wish to see in their communities.

Perhaps this is how we can live in this world, but not be of it, or be transformed through the renewal of our mind so that we can make the world a better place. By creating companies that survive in the realities of this world but also do their bit in making it a better place to live and work in.
